So I usually go to the scientists that have worked on the project and talk to them about what they’ve done and they usually let me know which bits are the important bits of the research. I then apply these findings to everyday life, e.g. why should the public care? How does it affect/improve our lives?
And then I get writing!
In terms of writing inspiration, it’s good to read a lot of good journalism (e.g. Guardian science, Scientific American, New Scientist) and books and that helps improve your ideas and vocabulary.
